SeaPerch International Underwater Tournament is for Junior Secondary (6 – 8 grade) and Secondary (9 – 12th grade) the International Challenge requires all qualifying teams to compete in four events (obstacle course, mission course, technical design report, and meet the team)
A usual season has teams meeting 1 or 2 times a week for an couple hours. The season starts in September with the international tournament the first week of June. START is recommending having our Kenya National SeaPerch ROV Tournament sometime in February so the winning students have time to get VISAs and travel plans.
START is in communication with SeaPerch to work out the logistics of purchasing the team kits and tools. They will be available for teams in September or October. START will be offering team trainings during September and October.
If we successfully launch this tournament we will be the first tournament in East Africa. The only other Africa tournament is in Egypt.
The students will be learning Teamwork, creative problem-solving, and real-life applications
Ocean science concepts such as buoyancy and displacement
Underwater vehicle design principles and tooling
Engineering concepts such as propulsion, waterproofing, electricity, circuits, and switches
